A new course at the University of Guelph's Ridgetown campus offers certification for purchasing and using Class-12 pesticides, commonly known as neonicotinoids, for corn and soybeans.
The Integrated Pest Management (IPM) course is being offered free of charge until August 31, 2016. Producers and agri-retailers who complete the course will be certified for five years to purchase and use neonic-treated corn or soybean seed, and to supervise up to 7 others to help with planting.
The new Ontario regulations, requiring anyone using neonic-treated seed to complete pest management training and certification, come into effect on August 31, 2016.
