Health Canada is consulting the public on proposed changes to dicamba use to reduce the risk to non-target plants. The consultation period has been extended from Nov. 1 to Dec. 16, 2025.

The proposed changes include:

  • Eliminating all post-emergent dicamba applications on dicamba-tolerant soybeans;
  • Expanded buffer zones for both ground and aerial applications; and
  • A maximum corn height of 50 centimetres for in-crop dicamba application.

Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has received incident reports and new toxicity data showing risks to non-target plants, which has triggered a special review of all commercial dicamba products. This is particularly relevant for Manitoba’s soybean growers, as dicamba-tolerant varieties cover a significant portion of acres in the province and dicamba is a key tool for managing weeds like waterhemp.
