On Aug. 29, the Government of Canada passed an Order in Council (OIC) implementing the repeal of retaliatory tariffs as of Sept. 1, as announced by Prime Minister Carney on Aug. 22. See the Statement by the Prime Minister on Canada-US trade.
This OIC repeals all tariffs, as of Sept. 1 for all non-steel, aluminum or automotive goods. Tariffs will be repealed; importers will not be required to show proof of Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement-compliance for tariffs to be waived.
The repeal of tariffs applies on a prospective, forward-looking basis only. The Canada Border Services Agency has also published updated Custom Notices reflecting these changes.
