For the last six months, the Seeds Canada policy team has been developing, in tandem with Seeds Canada members, the Guide to Sustainable Seed.
The Guide explores the sustainability efforts across four key areas of the Canadian seed industry: Plant Breeding, Seed Production, Seed Conditioning and Seed Retail. Each section of the Guide begins with a brief overview before explaining the processes and practices for sustainable outcomes.
The Seed Retail section begins on page 14, and includes an outline of the seed retail process, the importance of retailers when it comes to economic and social sustainability, and seed retail practices for sustainable outcomes.
“In Canada, seed retail plays a significant role in the agricultural industry, supporting a broad spectrum of food production, plant breeding, and sustainable farming practices. As the global focus on sustainability grows, seed retailers play a significant role in promoting environmental, social, and economic sustainability.”
